Where there is fire, we will carry gasoline
All theory and no action was my biggest fear. I guess I'll have to come up with a new biggest fear, beside worms of course.
I continually find myself diving head first into these deep conversation's with friends but mostly strangers (go figure), about life, change, willingness, love, marriage, actions, on the occasion politics, and fulfilling ones personal legend (read 'The Alchemist') if you haven't already, it's bases is everything I strive for everyone who has lost sight of theirs to re-gain.
Photography, that's my personal legend. For the first time in my life I'm really happy... I mean down to my core happy, of course I still have the occasional stress (mostly about printing on the right paper, or coming up with a compelling concept for my next shoot) or the old drunk man who harassed me on the Muni the other day. Did I tell that story?? I don't think I did... well here it is.
I was riding home from school on the Muni (subway) the other day, it was rush hour and it was pretty packed. So this old asian guy gets on and proceeds to sit right next to me. He smells like the inside of a Jack Daniel's bottle, and sure enough he whipped out a mini bottle from his coat pocket and downed a swig, 'nice' I thought to myself ignoring his rambling and Thi Chi with my head phone's, you know, like when you did when you were a kid? if I can't see him he can't see me. Ohhhh how I was wrong. After about a good 50 seconds of him staring at me I finally took off my headphones and looked at him, he proceeds to say (in a LOUD drunken voice) "YOUR Obama's DAUGHTER !!!!!, YOUR OBABA'S DAUGHTER RIGHT?!?! IM SURE OF IT !!!! @ this point the whole subway got silent...then burst out laughing. I wanted to crawl in a whole and die, I was mortified, I tried to explain that I was NOT in fact Obama's daughter, but I don't think it got through his drunken haze. People began texting and calling their friends and or family telling them about the crazy drunk guy and the alleged Obamas daughter on the subway, this went on for 20 min's until my stop. Story of my life, if it's going to happen to anyone it's going to happen to me.
Anywhooo, all in all, I am really happy in the direction that life has taken me (smiling as I write this) It's comforting to know that I'll never work a day in my life. Photography is like an extension of me, my art, my passion, my soul printed and stung up for all to see. Truly happy.
ok done rambling.

Qualities of Light
I had another project this week (story of my life). It was all about qualities of light, I had to shoot the same subject in direct light, shade, and ambient light through a window. Sorry I don't sound all SUPER excited about this post, I really wasn't into the project to begin with. Hmmm maybe it's the professor, you see, when we critique our images in class we don't even print them like in my Fundamentals class. He just shows them digitally on a screen gives his opinion of each and that's the end of it. However in my fundamentals class our professor pushes you to think of new and exciting ways to shoot. Then we print our photographs and critique them for more than half of the class everyone gives their opinion and critiques the images individually. It's pretty stressful but it just pushes me to produce better and better images!

now I'm off to write two paper's... Urg midterms are killing me slowly. Nite nite all !

Tiny Space Men
So my most recent project was to depict one 'Haptic' and one 'Visual' photograph. Haptic, meaning to produce a photographic image that is more subjective, abstract expression, and unconcerned with realistic representation. Visual, pertaining to what we immediately see, no manipulations done with that camera, such as extreme angles or wide apertures. I struggled with the latter until I stumbled across this little beauty lying in the grass.
I was super nervous to print them, and have them critiqued by my fellow students in class. But when one of the guys grabbed my name out of the stack he promptly stated, "YES! finally I get work that I like." That put me at ease :D, Its always encouraging to hear things like that.
Anywhooo here they are...

Sunny Sundays
Today I discovered Golden Gate Park, a wonderful place which I'll have to explore again very very soon. If all my Sunday's could be like today, I would be a happy happy women. I sat & watched swing dancers groove while my friends sketched (animation/cinematography majors) It was so great to see the young and old out dancing in the park, who knew?! Then we headed over to the roller skating area, man theses people could get down... and on wheels no less.
Then it was off to the Oscar party @ a swank little french cafe with food that is to die, and where the people felt like family.

All in all, a wonderful Sunday, it should be mandatory to have all Sundays like this one. Hope you all have a wonderful wekk ahead.

Cold day @ the beach
Sorry for the lack of blogging lately, I've been up to my eyeballs in homework and shoot's. I tell ya, where does the time go? If anyone know's let me know so we can take a trip and pick some up.
Anywhooo, I had a project this past week on light, and how it changes throughout the day. I wont bore you with the actually images from the shoot, they where pretty uninspiring. However I did mess around and get other shots in-between.
But before you take a look, let me just say that I think everyone should go to he beach and just sit. No books, no music, no phone (well @ least turn it off) take nothing but yourself, and just watch. Watch the ocean, watch the sun, watch your surroundings, I promise after you get over the initial shock of just sitting there, not checking you iPhone every five seconds, you'll wake up, I mean REALLY wake up and have a 'holy moment'. You know 'holy moments?'
I sat there for over 4 hours, shooting the changing light, and of course my iPhone died, I had no books no nothing but myself to entertain. So I was forced to sit and REALLY watch, to really see what was actually going on around me. I saw couples hand in hand walking down the coast, old and young. The random students taking pictures of themselves with the setting sun, a father watching his 3 year old son discover the world around him. All this built up to a women who brought her dog down to the water on a leash (dog looked as old as water) she unsnapped the leach and ran a little ways down the beach then called to the dog, I swear year's fell from that dog like rain from the sky, he ran towards her like he was a puppy again. All I could do was cry, while she jumped and played with him for a while, finally she put the leach back on and walked slowing home.
After hours of sitting I became so caught up in all these moment's that the simplicity of that 'one' struck my soul.
